Day 7: Reading Camps

During each of the school breaks (3 per year), Nairobi Chapel runs reading camps in informal settlements. Today we got to visit one of the camps at Kawangware Primary School. The camps not only help the students improve their reading skills, but they also provide a fun environment for the kids during break and meals that they might not otherwise receive.

Each member of our team was assigned to sit in with a group of students that were led by young people from Chapel. I sat in with a group of 6th-grade boys. The leader did an amazing job helping the students with their spelling while having fun.

After group time the kids got a visit from a robot that they all knew from a Christian Television show. The kids loved it! While the kids were interacting with the robot we sat down with Pastor Bella to learn more about the ministry. She does an amazing job overseeing the reading camps as well as all the children's ministry to Chapel at Bridgeway.

This evening we each spent time with our hosts. I was so blessed by the hospitality of Pastor Collins and his wife Maria. I felt very at home in their place, ate very well, and enjoyed many great conversations. Thank you, Collins and Maria, for welcoming me into your home.

I'm off to bed a little early tonight because we have an early morning tomorrow followed by a full day of ministry on Sunday before catching our flight home. Thanks for your prayers!
