Day 6: Prison Ministry

Today we had a unique opportunity to be a part of Nairobi Chapel's prison ministry. Down the road from the church, there is a short-term prison for those who commit minor offenses and can't pay the fine. Most of the men in the prison stay for as little as a week and as much as six months.

Before heading to the prison we met up with Pastor Festus who runs the prison ministry. He explained how this prison has been adopted by Nairobi Chapel. They provide a worship service every Sunday, discipleship and life skills throughout the week, ministry to the families while their loved one is in prison, and help to re-enter life after prison. Nairobi Chapel has also found tangibles way to serve the men by donating beds. Previously the men had to sleep on the concrete floor. This prison was recently recognized as the best prison in Kenya.

Displayed in multiple locations throughout the prison.
As we visited the prison I was blown away by how friendly the guards were. Many were believers and were excited about the ministry taking place in the prison. Our whole team was a part of a panel that answered life skill questions that the men asked. Then we each shared a few words of encouragement to the men before Cody shared a powerful testimony. After Cody's testimony, Festus gave a gospel presentation and dozens of men came forward to accept Christ. Praise God! What a powerful time.

Joesph a former prisoner in that prison and now a volunteer at the prison via Nairobi chapel took each man's name down so that he and Festus can follow up and disciple the men.

Your prayers and support are felt. Thank you!
