National Day of Prayer

So a week ago I had a chance to take my boys to the Capital Building in Washington DC for the national day of prayer.

We had a great time. The prayer service got a little long for them. But I am glad we got to do this for a few reasons.

1. We enjoyed spending time together. We listened to music they like both ways in the car. We walked through DC a little and looked as some different sights. I timed them as they raced each other back and forth across the National Mall. We prayed together, sang together, and ate McDonalds together.

2. They saw a glimpse of what heaven will be like. They got to see a diverse group of people gathered at their nations capital worshiping the same God. They heard worship and prayer in a wide variety of languages.

3. They were prayed for. The organizers took time to dedicate a segment of the prayer service to pray for young people. I believe in prayer and believe that prayer for my boys will make a difference in their lives.

My hope is that even though years from may not remember the details of the day, that they will have felt the love of their heavenly father and their earthly father. I also hope that they will look back on this with thankfulness to God that we live in a country where we can pray to him publicly even on the steps of our nations capital.
