On Memorial Day I asked my kids what this day off of school was all about. One of them didn't really know the other had a great response. "It's about remembering all those that sacrificed for us." This opened up a great dialogue about about how many of the best things in life are not free. You have work and sacrifice for them. We are so blessed by those that have gone before us, many paying the ultimate sacrifice, so that we could live in freedom. I am forever grateful.
In additions to remember those that sacrificed for us, I hope my kids remember a few other things about memorial day.
1. The fun they had with their family.
2. The friends that they played with at the cookouts and pool.
3. The community experienced when a group of diverse people come together to enjoy food and conversation together.
