The New Minority- Helping White Teenagers Adjust to Being Minorities in Youth Ministry Settings

As the United States continues to grow in diversity at some point in the next 20-30 years there will not be a single majority race. My hope is that the church grows in diversity even quicker than that. Because of these changes, the majority will now become a minority. This is commonplace in the ministry I work in. A bridge that needs to be built to the “new minority” helping everyone grow together. Here are my thoughts on helping white middle and high school students adjust to being a minority in youth ministry settings. Immediate Shepherding: I would focus on helping them engage and keep coming to them coming to your youth ministry. Do what you can to avoid the one and done. Most of the best solutions are longterm, but if they don’t stay around in the short-term the long-term doesn’t matter. Kenya Update: Korogocho & the Tumaini Clinic

A Street in Korogocho Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 Today we visited Korogocho, an informal settlement in Nairobi. Korogocho is another location where Nairobi Chapel is doing amazing work. Nairobi Chapel has established and is running the Tumaini Health Clinic in the middle of Korogocho. The health clinic offers great care to the residents of Korogocho at an affordable rate. Harriet giving us a tour of the clinic One of the main reasons the Tumaini Clinic was founded was to address the high rates of child and mother deaths during child birth. Since the establishment of the clinic child birth deaths have gone down by 80%. The health clinic is there for other health needs in the community as well. It also functions as a safe house when people in the community are in need of refuge. On Sunday morning the children of the community gather at the clinic for a Sunday School.
